What We Do

Volunteerism

For over 36 years, DBL has provided active volunteers to numerous local organizations, through both individual effort and DBL group projects.

Each active and associate member is required to contribute volunteer hours annually to local charitable projects.

Each year, members also support many group projects, where DBL partners with local nonprofit organizations on specific volunteer opportunities. Group projects for 2008-2009 include Adopt-A-Spot, Denton Arts & Jazz Festival and Salvation Army Angel Tree.

Over 538,000 volunteer hours have been contributed by DBL members since its inception. Last year, DBL reported 33,610 volunteer hours.

DBL has been the recipient of many community volunteer awards.

Fundraising

Members are required to participate in DBL fundraising activities throughout the fiscal year to generate funds for annual grants to local organizations.

To date, DBL has given the community almost $3.1 million in funding to support nonprofit programs in social service and education, as well as historic and arts projects.

Over 165 local organizations have received DBL grants.

Funds are primarily raised through the annual Charity Ball, a special Tabloid section of the Denton Record-Chronicle, and other activities.

One hundred percent of net proceeds are distributed to the community through the Project Research Grants program. NO contributions to DBL are used in our administration.

All Denton Benefit League expenses are supported by member dues. DBL has no paid staff. All work is done by volunteers. Grant recipients are local nonprofit organizations supporting local needs and projects.
